Per to the Club’s Constitution, the Club will operate Committees pursuant to Section 17.4 one (1) member of which will be a director. For more information, consult the Club’s Constitution – link to the document in the Members Area.

Membership

The Membership Committee shall seek to maintain the Club membership at a satisfactory level and to attract the interest of new members. In addition, it shall be its duty to see that new members are welcomed to the Club and that arrangements are made for their initial instruction in curling.

The Membership Committee shall be responsible for:

• Maintaining an up-to-date membership and phone list and to collect the membership dues in co-ordination with the Treasurer. Copies of up-to-date phone lists must be available at the Club at all times.
• Co-ordinating with the Match and Food Committee, on events i.e., the wine & cheese party to be held in conjunction with the Opening Spiel.

Match

The Match Committee be in charge of all the curling activities of the Club and shall be responsible for the use of the ice. The Secretary of the committee shall keep a record of all matches, scores thereof and record of trophies won by the Club. All records of important competitions shall be
kept by the Secretary in a suitable book for the information of the Club.

Ice

The Ice Committee‘s key responsibility is for that portion of the building housing the ice surface.

Specific responsibilities are as follows:
(a) making ice
(b) preparing and maintaining the ice surface for all club events
(c) maintenance of the ice plant and equipment
(d) providing care and upkeep of the Club brooms
(e) preparation of a duty list for the Iceman

Canteen

The Canteen Committee shall be responsible for providing Canteen refreshments as deemed necessary but excluding functions performed in the kitchen.

House

The House Committee shall have control and supervision of the Club premises except as herein otherwise provided and the administration of the Rules and Regulations affecting same. The Committee shall be responsible for the care and maintenance of the Club property including:
furnishings, heating, lighting, plumbing equipment and for a perpetual inventory thereof. The House Director will maintain a close liaison with the Canteen Director for clean up before and after special functions such as: bonspiels and parties.

Daytime

The Day Curlers committee’s key responsibility shall be to organize and operate the day curlers program that will provide co-ordination of the clubs day curlers.

Entertainment

The Entertainment Committee shall have control and directions of:

(a) arrangements for carrying out any social entertainment and hospitality extended to visitors and outside Clubs.

(b) Developing an entertainment package to include the following key events:

• various mini-mixed bonspiels;
• “friendlies” with other clubs in conjunction with Canteen and Match Committees;
• planning of the closing banquet (within budget), New Year’s Eve Party, the closing party and any social summer event such as: Golf tournaments, B.B.Q.’s or Corn roasts.

Junior/Little Rocks

The Junior program committee’s key responsibility shall be to organize and operate a little league and Junior program that will provide instruction and coaching.

1946 – The club was founded with curling on two sheets of natural ice in the Community Hockey Arena. Curling continued at the hockey arena until the season of 1951- 52.

1952 – In the summer of 1952, with a membership of 16 men, the present building was constructed. A loyal band of men, not all curlers but full of good citizenship and enthusiasm, devoted their spare time and talent (night and day) all fall to the construction. They were the following: Les Dunning (president), Reg Waterman, Eddy Smith, Hec MacMillan, Larry Dunning, John Dunning, Lloyd Lobb, Jim Moffatt, Tice Rochon, Arnold Moffatt, Ernie Elliott, Dick Moffatt, Stewart Martin, Romeo Gervais, Myles Tobin, Wally Rowe, James Hayes, Eddie Minoque, Sam Anderson, John Sharkey, Wilfred Sharkey, Lornie Barnett, Tom Rankin Jr., Allen Moffatt, Fred Jones, Edwin Williams, Maurice Fitzpatrick, John Kearns, Bill MacMillan, Ken Garvock and Mac McEachern.

1953 – Curling up to this time was with irons. Two sets of granite stones were obtained on loan from the Royal Caledonia Curling Club.

1956 – Membership increased to a point where an artificial plant was installed this year. All labour for the construction of the building, installation of the ice plant, plumbing, and club room refurbishing was supplied by club members. There were several changes in club construction in these years: kitchen was renovated, the upstairs lounge new floor, and the roof of
the ice surface was replaced with a modern aluminum sheeting.

1966 – Men’s change room added off the main lounge and the main lounge was redone with a new floor and lighting.

1968 – New granites were purchased and our borrowed rocks were given to Loyola University in Montreal.

1975 – Club rooms upstairs enlarged over entrance way and plant room.

1976 – New roof over ice surface after old roof did not meet the new snow load restrictions.

1976 – Men’s Deep Sea Bonspiel started.

1981 – Mixed Deep Sea Bonspiel started.

2016 – Celebrating the club's 70-year birthday

2019 - "New to the Club" stones were purchased, but were not used until 2021 as the global pandemic kept many businesses closed. 

2021 - Membership applications and payments were now available online.

2021-2022 - Celebrating 75 years of a rich history of a volunteer-run curling club! 

2022 - New point-of-sale system at the bar. Bye bye, old cash register.

For over 75 years, the Cumberland Curling Club (CCC) has been a cornerstone of community in Orleans, Cumberland, and Rockland. Our volunteer-run, two-sheet rink welcomes more than 200 members annually, fostering traditions and creating new stories together.
